The Otosan cone is a clinically trialled, natural method, for looking after ear hygiene by yourself, and without risk.

The Otosan cone derives from an ancient popular tradition. This simple, safe and effective method for resolving ear problems at home has now been improved by adding propolis, a natural cleansing substance renowned for its antibacterial properties.

The Otosan cone improves the ear’s natural defences and prevents a build-up of earwax, which often leads to problems such as buzzing, hissing or roaring sounds, unbalanced ear pressure, hearing loss and “blocked ear” feeling.

Therefore, thanks to continuous research into the quality and safety of the product, the OTOSAN cone has obtained the qualification of class one medical device.

How it works: Warm air produced by the lit Otosan cone gently fills the ear canal, softening the earwax and – thanks to warm propolis vapours – give effective protection to the ear. This heat also regenerates blood flow within the ear, resulting in a feeling of well-being, and of gentle relaxation.

The warm rising air creates a slight vacuum at the base of the cone. This helps in eliminating waste, deposits, and water from the ear canal, and regains the correct tension of the eardrum following sudden changes in atmospheric pressure.

How to use:

1. Insert the Otosan cone into the protective Disc (silvered side up) as far as the base of the Flame Breaking Ring.
2. Light the wider end of the cone.
3. Insert the tapered end of the Otosan cone not too deeply into the ear, holding it as vertical as possible.
4. No smoke should be visible between the cone and the ear. 
   (If smoke is visible between the cone and the ear, adjust the angle of the cone for a better seal.)
5. When the flame has burnt down to the Flame Breaking Ring, stop treatment and extinguish the Otosan cone in a glass of water.
6. Repeat the process with the other ear.

When to use: As part of your regular ear hygiene, it is recommended to use the product every one or two months, dependent on individual needs.

The University of Pavia, following various clinical and dermatological tests in its laboratories, released a positive testimonial on the use of the OTOSAN cone.

Case Studies: In the first case 15 adults were tested. They presented an abundance of earwax, or the actual formation of a plug, and complained of itchiness, difficulty in perceiving sounds, buzzing and hissing sounds. After the cone had been applied, all patients reported an immediate improvement of their symptoms and when examined using an otoscope a decrease in wax could be observed.

In the second case 15 schoolchildren suffering from otalgia who had not taken pain-killers for at least six hours were considered. Most of the children reported a remarkable reduction in pain after only five minutes from the end of the treatment with the cone. At a test carried out two hours later the pain had not returned. As a result of these tests, doctors have formed a positive judgement on the use of the OTOSAN cone.
